Pilonidal Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal works by heating the hair cells with the laser, which transfers energy/heat to the hair follicle. This transfer of energy/heat destroys the hair follicle so the hair cannot regrow.  Since the focal point of pilonidal disease is located on the cleft of the buttocks, we only focus our treatments on the cleft, we do not remove all the hair on the buttocks.

Patients typically require 3-6 treatments for adequate response, and each session takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Although lidocaine cream is applied in the office prior to the treatment itself, sedation or prescription medications are not required. Patients can drive themselves home from the procedure.

Currently this procedure is offered by Dr. Katherine Khalifeh and Alexandria Minutillo, PA-C.

Unfortunately, laser hair removal is not covered by insurance-or HSA/FSA; each session costs $300.  As with any other medical treatment, results are not guaranteed and outcomes do vary, including recurrence.
