Dr. Cheng was motivated to become a doctor at the age of twelve after her father passed away from terminal cancer. She received further inspiration from her grandfather who was a general surgeon in Taiwan.
Born in New York and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Cheng graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Neuroscience from Barnard College, Columbia University. Dr. Cheng returned to New Jersey where she received her Medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), Rutgers University. While earning her Medical degree, she worked as a Scholar Researcher at the Crohn’s and Colitis Center of New Jersey, RWJMS.
Dr. Cheng continued her medical training at RWJMS, where she completed her General Surgery Residency, earning the 2017 Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Award, the Recognition of Outstanding Accomplishment in Women’s Health in 2015, and a Certificate of Excellence in Teaching in 2013.
Dr. Cheng went on to complete her Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Swedish Colon & Rectal Clinic in Seattle, Washington: She received training in all aspects of colon and rectal physiology and surgery including, anorectal surgery, abdominal surgery, and endoscopy. She trained extensively in advanced laparoscopic procedures, including Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS), and robotic surgery.
Dr. Cheng’s clinical interest include benign anorectal disease and colorectal cancer. She has co-authored several papers that have been published in a variety of medical journals. Dr. Cheng’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Medical Society of Virginia, and Chesapeake Colorectal Society.
Dr. Cheng spends her free time running, cooking, skiing and traveling around the world.
