Dr. Dougherty is a native of Ohio and trained in Colon & Rectal Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, one of the nation’s finest training programs in Colon & Rectal Surgery.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Microbiology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (1989). She then moved on to the Medical College of Ohio where she completed her medical degree and general surgery residency.
Dr. Dougherty joined Dr. Colvin and Fairfax Colon & Rectal Surgery in 1999, and remains interested in all aspects of the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery, especially Cancer, Diverticulitis, IBD and Robotic Surgery.
She has rapidly gained the respect of her peers demonstrated by continually named one of the area’s “Top Doctors” for colorectal surgeons by a poll conducted by Washingtonian Magazine.
She participates locally with numerous educational talks to the community, other physicians, projects, and training surgical residents. She has participated on local TV programs, panels, symposiums and newspaper articles.
In addition to her devotion to her patients, Dr. Dougherty is a dedicated wife and mother of two children. Her leisure time is spent with them in a variety of activities.
