Cecilia encountered the specialty of colon and rectal surgery at an early age after she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Her journey with Crohn’s disease became a major catalyst for the direction of her medical career: Seeking support in the ostomy community and assuming leadership roles in local support groups further deepened her connection and calling to the field.

Cecilia attended the University of Southern Mississippi for her nursing program after being awarded a full scholarship by Ocean Springs Hospital. Upon graduation, Cecilia worked two year on a surgical unit before expanding her experience as a travel nurse throughout the U.S. Cecilia followed this experience with graduate school at the University of Texan Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Family Nurse Practitioner program. Cecilia received high honors distinction in her graduate program and ember of Sigma Theta Tau. Following graduation in 2016, Cecilia relocated to Seattle, Washington, to begin her career in colon and rectal surgery. In 2017, Cecilia received her certification in Ostomy Care from Cleveland Clinic’s R.B. Turnbull Jr. MD’s School of WOC Nursing Education (WOC, Wound Ostomy & Continence).

Cecilia relocated to Northern Virginia in 2022 to be closer to her family. She’s recently engaged and a mom to one sassy cat named Django, and two rambunctious dogs, Plug the pug, and littler brother Brighton. In her spare time, she is an avid reader and passionate hobbyist photographer.
