Procedure preparation and instructional Information
Most patients who are to undergo colorectal surgery, anorectal surgery, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy or anorectal physiology testing are required to undergo some form of bowel cleansing program. There are a variety of regimens utilized. The surgeon will determine which of these regimens is best for each particular patient depending on what procedure is planned, the patient’s other medical conditions, the need for oral antibiotics and, to some extent, patient preference.
At the time of the patient’s consultation with the surgeon they will recommend which of regimens the patient should follow and give the patient whichever prescriptions are needed, if any, for the preparation. Listed below are the instructions for how and when to prepare for each of the procedures our patients undergo.
Also included below are general instructions and information the patient may find helpful both in the pre-procedure period as well as post-procedure time frame.
