Please be aware that most Insurance providers consider any procedure performed in the office a 'surgical procedure' and will appear as such on the Explanation of Benefits statement that you will receive from your insurance provider. These 'surgical procedures' often do not require or involve any type of anesthesia and may be simply part of the patient's evaluation. These may include anoscopy, proctoscopy or anorectal physiology testing. Many office-based treatments such as hemorrhoidal banding or infrared coagulation are also listed by the Insurance company as surgical procedures even though neither the patient nor the physician think of them as such.
